About the Event

This Event Is Free and the Public is warmly invited to attend!

3rd Grade Students from Washington Elementary School will reenact a typical day at the East Washington District #5 Schoolhouse from 100 years ago!

This winter our own Marian Baker has been educating 3rd grade students from the Washington Elementary School  about what going to school in Washington was like over 100 years ago. Students have  learned about how at one time the town was divided into as many as ten districts, each with its own one room schoolhouse. Using a 3D map of the town, Marian helped the students discover based on where they lived which schoolhouse they would have attended 100 years ago, and how far they would have had to walk to get there!

As a separate part of the experience, Marian hosted a fieldtrip by the students to the historical societies' District #5 Schoolhouse, which operated from 1849 until 1938. During the fieldtrip the students got to experience firsthand what parts of a typical school day would have been like - while sitting at the original wood and iron desks in a classroom that has been preserved virtually unchanged since their great-grandparents time!

The culmination of this unique learning experience will take place at 4p.m. on Monday, May 13th, when under Marian Baker's direction, the Washington Elementary 3rd graders will return to the historic District #5 school to act out parts of a typical school day from one hundred years ago!  We invite you to come and enjoy this very special event as the students show you what Washington schools were like long before the age of computers!

If you, your parents, or grandparents attended any of the Washington Schools in years gone by, we hope that you will also attend and share a story or two about your experiences!

So put May 13th on your calendars now (we will provide a specific time in a follow-up announcement). We hope to see you there for this fun and unique experience!
