Property owners Beth and Joe Lampron graciously invite you to tour the site of the Burwash cabin and studio.

{This is a companion event to our Summer-long exhibit of the works of Washington W.P.A artists Nat Burwash}

On July 23 and August 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., property owners Beth and Joe Lampron welcome you to tour the site of the cabin and studio where from 1934 - 1941 W.P.A. artist Nat Burwash turned out beautiful watercolors for the New Hampshire Federal Art Project.  The Burwash's moved to Cambridge, MA at the start of WW2 when the W.P.A. programs ended, and Nat switched from painting to sculpting/wood carving in 1946, but they continued to own the cabin and Nat maintained a working studio there until 1980, when the cabin was sold to help pay for Ida's  medical expenses.  

After that, the cabin fell into disrepair -- but happily the Lampron's now own the site and are actively working to restore the cabin, studio and other outbuildings as they were during the Burwash's time.  Their hope is that one day the cabin and studio can be used as part of an "artist in residence" program, as Nat Burwash dreamed of.

The Lampron's work is already underway.  Decades of decay and collapse are being cleared away at the cabin, and all that is sound is being saved.  Work on the seperate studio, woodshed, and 2 seater outhouse hasn't begun yet, but you will be able to view those from the outside.  There is plenty there to see!

A wide trail has been cleared giving access to the site, but as this is New Hampshire hill country, there are some rocks and  trip hazards about and the trail goes up a moderate hill -so this tour is not recommended for those who are not steady on their feet or who don't have good vision to watch the ground as they walk.  Visitors will be asked to sign an injury liability waiver (available on site) as a condition of taking the tour.

To get to the site on the two tour days - from the center of Washington drive south down RT 31 and then turn right onto Bailey Road.  After about .6 mile you will see a small dirt road on the left - Juniper Drive (there is a sign).  Follow this road straight and you will come to an open area where you can park and people will be there to guide you.

Please remember that once you turn onto Juniper Drive that you are on private property.  Please be respectful of that, and only visit the location on the tour dates of July 23, 2022 and August 20, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at no other time. Thank You!!!
